Elder Care 101
To pass Elder Care 101 you’ll need time, patience, support and good information.
So here’s the deal: you give yourself the first two and I’ll make it my business to give you the last two. Let’s get started…
1. Ask me any elder care-related question and expect a free, personalized answer.
More about that on the Ask Maria page, but the bottom line is this: I’m here, I’m knowledgeable, and I built this site so I could be of help to you. So here’s my first two words of advice: Take advantage.
2. Review the Age Well page
There I talk about the five keys to aging well. No matter where you are in your caregiving, my best advice is to do this “big picture” exercise first:
Write down each of the five keys on a piece of paper and consider how your mom/dad is doing in each area. Be honest about the areas that need improvement.
This will give you your first insights into where you should focus your time and efforts when it comes to caring for your aging parent.
3. Stop by the Get Organized page
There I offer insights about the most important things you’ll want to have on hand (in some cases, literally!) so you can be ready for anything.
4. Learn the steps to Planning Care
You’ll hear the term “plan of care” used a lot by folks in elder care. It’s fine, so long as you realize that “the plan” has to change as the picture changes.
On this page I offer five sequential steps to help you in planning care for your aging parent no matter how long you’ve been caregiving.
5. Stay connected to this site!
Enter your e-mail address in the box below and never miss a post.

Please note: I will NEVER give away or sell your e-mail address to anyone. In other words, NO ONE is getting to you through me. I HATE spam as much as you do.
